Calcium is an essential nutrient for the body to build strong bones and teeth. Calcium helps in the contraction of muscles and clotting of blood.
Calcium is mainly found in foods like milk, broccoli, oysters, curd and green leafy vegetables. Coral calcium is a form of calcium that is taken from “coral” that grows under water but coral calcium is not a quality supplement of calcium.
Coral consists of small living organisms called ‘coral polyps’. These coral polyps consume calcium carbonate from the seawater and build a protective shield around them. After sometime when coral polyps die, new coral polyps grow on top of the coral thus forming coral reefs. There are two forms of coral calcium that are available in today’s market.
One is taken from coral reefs found in Okinawa, Japan. Another one is taken from live coral that washes up the shore in Brazilian beaches. It is believed that this type of coral has more minerals tan its Okinawa form. Both, Calcium and magnesium are found in this form. Calcium helps us to prevent from many diseases. Therefore its forms also cure diseases to some extent. Some of these diseases are Osteoporosis, Eczema, Cancer, Gallstones, Diabetes, Hypertension etc. Coral calcium is not a superior form of calcium. Coral Calcium only contains 24% to 38% of calcium and rest is calcium carbonate. The quantity of daily intake of calcium varies with the age group of people. However, the highest limit of daily calcium intake is 2.5 gm. |
